Milking time in Wellsville

Maybe the cow will show up in Wellsville Friday for the fourth Dairy Drive-Thru.

WELLSVILLE – Holy Cow the fourth Dairy Drive-Thru is coming to Wellsville from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Wellsville Elementary School.
The fourth Dairy Drive-Thru is being sponsored by Barney Farms, 4-H Project Clover Aid and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Allegany County and Hoffman Farms of Shinglehouse, Pa. Following this event 4-H Clover Aid says it will turn its efforts toward helping farmers during this, their busiest time of the year, since other agencies have step forward to help families and individuals who are in need of food.
The Dairy Drive-Thru is open to any community members who are in need. They will be handing out 350 gallons of milk plus one pre-packaged bag of dairy products to each vehicle. Depending on donations, items that may be included in the bags are yogurt, coffee creamer, sour cream, cottage cheese, buttermilk. string cheese, cheddar cheese blocks and flavored milk. Families who are struggling with food insecurity are encouraged to attend.
Everyone should stay in their vehicles. Volunteers, wearing masks, will bring the dairy products to the vehicles. Social distancing and health hygiene practices will be maintained.
Dairy Drive-Thrus have been held in Whitesville twice and once at Friendship Central School with donations from Chobani Yogurt, Saputo’s of Friendship, Milk for Health, Upstate Farms and Golden Age Cheese Company and with the help of Whitesville and Friendship school district personnel, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department and Your Local Produce Connection.
Online and onsite donations have allowed the group to host the Wellsville Dairy Drive-Thru on Friday. “However,” they said, “While the need for dairy products in our community continues, it is now being served in other ways such as the Nourish NY program. With your continued support 4-H Project Clover Aid is turning its efforts to providing Food Boxes for Farmers. This is a busy time of year for farmers to get away to access other programs. Delivering food boxes to their door will show our appreciation for their continued dedication to feeding us while working through a stressful time.”
To donate to the farmers send a check payable to CCE-Allegany, with “Dairy Drive" on memo line to CCE Allegany County, 5435A County Road 48, Belmont, N.Y., 14813. One hundred percent of all monetary donations will go toward providing products for distribution to local farms.
