Press Statement from Wyoming County Community Health System

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wyoming County Community Health System, Warsaw, NY
Joseph L. McTernan, CEO
1:00 p.m., March 22, 2020
This morning, Wyoming County Community Health System received notice from the New York State Department of Health that two (2) residents of the Skilled Nursing Facility have tested positive for COVID-19. The residents have been cared for in isolation since being tested. With assistance from the New York State Department of Health epidemiology staff, contact tracing is in process for residents and staff. The source of the infections has not been determined.

Skilled nursing facility staff reporting for work are being screened prior to entering the facility. All staff are taking aggressive infection control measures and are using personal protective equipment. Enhanced visitor restrictions have been in place since March 18, 2020 to protect our community and prepare for COVID-19. These restrictions remain in place and will be strictly enforced for the safety of all.

From Joseph McTernan, CEO of WCCHS, "The safety of our residents, patients, staff and the community remains our greatest priority. I fully recognize that community members will have questions about their loved ones in the WCCHS Skilled Nursing Facility. The following staff members of the WCCHS Skilled Nursing Facility will answer any questions family members may have:

Dawn James, Administrator (585) 786–8940 ext. 4701
 Denise Prusak, Director of Nursing (585) 786–8940 ext. 4703

Concerned family members of Skilled Nursing Facility residents should not come to WCCHS for information. We must each do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19."

From Dr. Gregory Collins, DO, MPH, Commissioner or the Wyoming County Health Department, "All Wyoming County residents should practice social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19. Please, do not act on information from unreliable sources. Be prepared and take steps to care for yourselves, your families, friends and neighbors."
