Fire damages Allegany County home

Firefighters from at least six Allegany County departments battled an early morning house fire Sunday in Caneadea. The alarm sounded around 3 a.m. sending crews and equipment to 6425 Shongo Valley Road. The first assistant chief on scene told 911 "we have smoke showing from the second story." A secondary report indicated "heavy fire" conditions on the first floor, moving to the second story. Equipment was dispatched from Houghton, Oramel, Short Tract, Wiscoy-Rossburg, Fillmore and Belfast with Nunda placed on standby. The fire was declared under control at 4:23 a.m. Fire investigators were at the scene for nearly two hours. One initial radio report indicated the fire may have started near a stove. Most units returned to service by 9:30 a.m. There were no immediate reports of any injuries. County tax records show the home is owned by Cindy and Kenneth Jamusz.
