Causer, Owlett Announce Grant to Boost Career Awareness

HARRISBURG – Continuing the commitment to help prepare Pennsylvania’s youth for the careers of today and tomorrow, Reps. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) and Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter) today announced a grant for the North Central Workforce Development Board (NCWDB).

The organization, which serves school districts in Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean and Potter counties, was awarded $191,498 through the state’s Business-Education Partnership grant program. The funding will help NCWDB continue its work to ensure elementary, middle and high school students, as well as their parents and guardians, are aware of the career opportunities available across the six-county region and the Commonwealth. Further, it will help ensure an understanding of the education and skill needs of these jobs.

“For our kids to be successful, we need to prepare them for in-demand careers that will be both fulfilling and provide financial security,” Causer said. “This grant will help achieve that goal.”

“Just as importantly, if we are to retain and grow businesses and job opportunities in our region, we need a pipeline of well-trained workers coming out of our schools ready to work,” Owlett said. “This is an outstanding investment in our children and our future.”

The grant was among 19 awards totaling more than $2.4 million issued by the state Department of Labor and Industry Thursday.
