“The World Suicide Prevention Day walk is an opportunity to
learn more about suicide warning signs, prevention training information, and
ways you can help,” explained Drake Davis, Community Education Specialist. “It
is also a chance to walk in memory of those who have died by suicide and to
building awareness around local suicide prevention, intervention and
postvention efforts.”
Supporters will gather at the David A. Howe Library
Exhibition Room, with Rayne Rocks activity, Remembrance Quilt activity, and
registration at 5:00p.m., followed by the welcome and announcements at 6:00p.m.
At 6:45p.m., participants will walk down Main Street to the Dyke Street
intersection, and back to the library. Upon returning from the walk there will
be the ceremonial lighting of the World Suicide Prevention Day Candle. Our
event will conclude at 7:30 p.m. with closing remarks.
“This year we will continue with the Allegany County Suicide
Prevention Coalition Take the Pledge Campaign.“ continued Davis. “Pledge sheets
can be downloaded at www.ardentnetwork.org. Allegany County Suicide Prevention
T-Shirts will be available for a $5.00 donation. Monies will be used to support
local suicide prevention, intervention and postvention efforts. This event is
free and everyone is welcome regardless of participation in the Take the Pledge
Campaign.”
