Allegany, other counties have diminished voice in Albany

Cathy Young is no longer an elected official. She made that transition from a powerful state senator to, as she has said, an equally satisfying job at Cornell. When you go you Young's (former) state senate website, you get this:
And that's when it becomes real for many. We are just about two weeks away from lawmakers voting on a state budget. When that vote is eventually cast, Allegany County will be silent. However, to be fair, many have said this county has had no voice in Albany anyway. Like her or not, Senator Young was a voice, and a loud one at that.
Candidates are beginning to line up to replace her. As this site already reported, Allegany County Legislature Chair Curt Crandall wants a crack at it. So do others, I suspect...many others. However this process plays out, it needs to be fast-tracked. Allegany County many be small, rural and economically struggling...but when residents get determined, they act. Belfast 5000! Allegany County matters.
