To the citizens of Allegany County,
I am writing this letter in support of Sheriff Candidate
Walter Mackney. I had the privilege of serving as Undersheriff of Allegany
County from 2007 to 2010. I am well versed in all aspects of the Office of the
Sheriff and what it takes to manage that office. I have known Walt personally
and professionally since the onset of both of our Law Enforcement careers
dating back to the 1970s. Walt is an outstanding person and Law Enforcement
Officer with the utmost integrity. I have worked with Walt in my role as a
sworn police officer over my 30-year career and also as a presiding Village of
Wellsville Justice for 3 years.
Walt possesses the leadership, knowledge and personal
accountability to hold the Office of Sheriff. His outstanding resume, knowledge
of law enforcement trends, supervisory skills, forward thinking, ability to
plan and develop solutions for current and future issues are skills that all
Allegany County residents should look for in a candidate. Walt holds himself to
the highest standards and will work hard to ensure the employees of the
Sheriff's Office will do the same. Walt is materially involved in some of the
major concerns and issues facing public safety today such as Active Shooters,
School Safety, Drug Enforcement and Education. Corrections and jail operations,
the two main functions of the Sheriff's Office, while new to Walt, are areas he
is eager to master.
Also very important is the issue of fiscal accountability. I
am confident that as Sheriff, Walt has the financial understanding to establish
cost efficient budgets and the skills to ensure costs remain under control, as
well as maintaining the contracts with the Federal Government that provide
roughly 2 million dollars per year in revenue to the County. These contracts
date back to 2008/2009. They were negotiated and implemented prior to the
current Sheriff's administration.
I strongly urge all voters to review Walt's resume, work
history, advanced training, supervisory qualifications, professional law
enforcement as well as the public endorsements that Walter Mackney is currently
receiving. There is one reason for this; Walt is the most qualified candidate
running for this office.
Just so you are aware, I no longer reside in Allegany County
but I was born and raised t here. I started my Law Enforcement career as a
Deputy Sheriff in Allegany County and ended it there as Undersheriff . My heart
and thoughts will always be for the good and public safety of the Count y.
There have been 3 generations of Goetschius men (4 members) that have had the
privilege of serving the citizens of Allegany County as Law Enforcement
Officers. I strongly recommend and urge you to research and become acquainted
with Walter Mackney and his candidacy for the Office of Sheriff of Allegany
County and to vote for him in the upcoming primary September 13th and the
General Election on November 6th.
