After a joint
investigation with PSP Fire Marshall Unit and the Boro police, the cause of Monday's
fire was ruled Accidental/Electrical. Investigators said it started between the
first floor front and back apartment and went through void spaces to the second
floor and attic almost immediately. All tenants have been displaced and are working
with the owner and the Red Cross with damage estimated between $150-200,000
with all 6 apartments being affected.
The building was the site of a fire earlier this year that
was thoroughly investigated and was determined to be accidental at that time
and had nothing to do with yesterday's fire. Also with several bridge closures
(Rt 6 West, Village of Hebron) it caused some slight delay in responses by various
departments but had no effect on the outcome of fire.
All crews worked hard and as a team effectively to
extinguish the fire. Smoke alarms and alert individuals that saw smoke and
immediately called 911 made a great difference as well.
Thanks,
Chief Phelps
