Notice to candidates seeking public office

It's that time of year again. Election season, as evidenced by lawns across communities sprouting "Vote For Me" signs! First of all, if you currently hold office - any coverage of you will be limited to "official actions during meetings" or quotes regarding a specific government action. Opinion pieces are on hold until after the Election. Sorry. Secondly, here are the rules prior to Election Day:
  1. I do want to hear from you. As a candidate for public office, I think you owe the voters a moment of openness. This site is free. You're still wise to spend $$ with area media (I have no financial investment with any area media). But if you turn down a no cost opportunity? Well...(you are either amazingly arrogant or poorly informed - The web stats are visible on the right side of the page).
  2. As a candidate, you will receive ONE free submission. Make it a good one, because I don't accept ads. That submission needs to include a photo and something about why you deserve or have earned a vote...Basically, why would anyone want to vote for you. This site does accept comments to posts and stories, but I do screen them. Please note, this offer applies to anyone seeking public office, regardless of party affiliation or no party.
  3. If you submit a 3,000 word essay, expect it to be edited. While it is free, be reasonable.
  4. This is YOUR chance to speak to people. You can use it. You can let it pass.
  5. A note from experience - If every candidate waits until three days before the Election it will be like a radio or TV station that airs seven minutes straight of political ads - people (and readers) will 'tune out.'
  6. Beyond the rules...elections matter. If a candidate passes up this offer, it hasn't cost me a penny. Voters deserve at least one non ad supported message. This offers is extended to any level of public service.
