The Cuba Cheese Museum has been in existence for about ten years. It moved several years ago to its present location in the first floor of the Palmer Opera House. The Museum was started by Nico vanZwanenberg and John Nease to highlight the long history of cheese in New York State. In the 1880s, there were about 1500 cheese factories in New York, one about every seven miles. The Museum seeks to preserve that heritage through artifacts and exhibits of home and factory cheese and dairy processing. The Museum charges no admission, existing only on fundraisers and donations. You can follow both the Cuba Cheese Museum and The Palmer Opera House on Facebook, or contact them at (585) 209- 5512.
