On Wednesday May 17, 2017 the New York State Police arrested two Orleans County Sheriff Deputies. Sergeant Dean Covis of Albion and Deputy Thomas Marano of Brockport were each charged with Grand Larceny in the 3rd degree and Falsifying Business Records in the 1st degree.
An investigation conducted by the New York State Police Major Crimes unit revealed that between November 2013 and January 2015, Sergeant Covis and Deputy Marano allegedly received payments from a private company they worked security for, after filing false time sheets, when in fact they were simultaneously working at the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office.
Genesee County District Attorney Lawrence Friedman has been assigned as a Special Prosecutor in this matter. Covis and Marano were arraigned before Niagara County Court Judge, Honorable Sara Sheldon in the Orleans County Court and were released on their own recognizance.
The Genesee County DA Office will handle any further inquiries.
