End of Watch: Livingston County Sheriff's K9 Gibbs

K9 Gibbs with Sergeant Ryan Swanson

GENESEO: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty sadly announces the passing of a Sheriff’s K9.
K9 Gibbs suddenly became ill earlier this week and was diagnosed with a large mass in his abdomen. K9 Gibbs underwent surgery to attempt removal of the mass and repair of his internal organs. Regretfully, the procedure could not repair the damage. Gibbs passed Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

Sheriff’s K9 Gibbs has been partnered with Sergeant Ryan Swanson for over seven years. They were a NYS DCJS certified Patrol/Tracking and Narcotics Detection K9 team. Gibbs is credited with numerous alerts of dangerous drugs, many potentially lifesaving human tracks and searches. He was a warrior that would fearlessly protect his handler. Gibbs was often called upon to seek out danger and clear the way for his human partners.

K9 Gibbs served his handler, the Sheriff’s Office and Livingston County with dedication. He will be missed by Sergeant Swanson, his family and fellow Deputy Sheriffs.
