Rhonda Kay (Ripple) Valenti, 64, of Austin, PA

Rhonda K. Valenti  August 29, 1960 – April 12, 2025

AUSTIN, PA---Rhonda Kay (Ripple) Valenti, 64, of Austin, PA, passed away peacefully in her home after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Born on August 29, 1960, in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Dixie L. (Stuckey) Ripple. Raised in Austin with her two younger sisters in a warm, loving home, Rhonda was taught the values of hard work, the importance of education, and the service of others—values she embraced and embodied throughout her life.

A graduate of Austin Area High School in 1978, Rhonda continued her education, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1982. She devoted 37 years as a Medical Technologist in the laboratory at UPMC Cole in Coudersport, PA. Rhonda’s compassion and expertise have left a lasting impact on the hospital and the community and will for many years to come.

On May 12, 1984, Rhonda married John W. Valenti, the love of her life. Together, they raised their daughters, Marcia and Karina, in a home filled with laughter and lasting memories. After John's passing on April 29, 2012, the birth of their grandson, Johnathan, exactly three months later, brought Rhonda renewed joy and purpose. The later arrivals of Elliott and Piper added even more love and fulfillment to her life. Rhonda’s precious grandchildren were the center of her universe, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Rhonda was an active and dedicated member of the community. She served as Vice President of the Austin Area School Board of Education from 1994 to 1996 and again from 2003 to 2005. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Rhonda also volunteered her time at local school events and blood drives.

Rhonda found happiness in life's simple moments—spending time with her family, her cats, and her grand dog, Mocha. She had a deep appreciation for music across all genres, and her beautiful singing voice touched the hearts of many. Her infectious laugh and beautiful sense of humor never wavered. Rhonda's generous heart was evident in her kind words, actions and eternal support, all given freely and with unconditional love.

Rhonda is survived by her daughters, Marcia T. Valenti and Karina H. (Kevin) Chelton, both of Austin, PA; and her grandchildren, Johnathan, Elliott, and Piper. She is also survived by her sisters, Vicki L. Roberts of Hilton, NY and Laurel L. Ripple of Galeton, PA; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and several brothers and sisters in-law.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rhonda was preceded in eternal rest by her in-laws, Alma and Joseph Valenti, who held a special place in her heart and were like second parents to her.

A private viewing was held at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.  Rhonda will be laid to rest with her beloved husband in the St. Augustine/St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Costello.  Father Joseph Dougherty will officiate.

A celebration of Rhonda’s extraordinary life for extended family and friends will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Rhonda’s family has entrusted her care and arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
