Hot Dog Day, the annual springtime celebration hosted by Alfred University, Alfred State College, and the Village of Alfred, will be held on Saturday, April 26. Hot Dog Day events will be held at various locations in the village and on both campuses.
Hot Dog Day kicks off with a parade on Main Street, beginning at noon. Immediately following the parade, a vendor fair will be held on Main Street until 5 p.m. The fair will feature vendors, hot dog stands, and games. Hot Dog Day 2025 merchandise will be available for purchase. Food trucks will also be on Main Street throughout the afternoon.
The Alfred University Jazz Band performs at the Terra Cotta on Main Street from noon-1 p.m. and live music, organized by Alfred University radio station WALF, will be staged between 1 and 7 p.m.
Various activities will be held on the Alfred University and Alfred State campuses. At Alfred University, wiener dog races will be held in the Brick Hall lawn beginning at 10:30 a.m. Also on the Brick lawn, an inflatable obstacle course and wipe out will run throughout the day. At Alfred State College, in Parking Lot 3, carnival games and rides, along with live music, will be offered from 1-5 p.m. Food trucks will also be on hand. Movie night, showing the film “Flight Risk,” begins at 8 p.m. in the Small Event Space in Alfred State’s Student Activities Center.
Tickets for hot dogs and various events will be available at the vendor fair and carnival.
There will be several events held in the days prior to Hot Dog Day. On Thursday, April 24, The Dogwood Derby will be held beginning at 7 p.m. at the Union University Church Center. On Friday, April 25, comedian Ryan Kelly (“Youth Pastor Ryan”) will perform with Sunny Laprade at 5:30 p.m. in Alfred University’s Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. At 8 p.m. Friday, a 5K Glow Run will be held, with registration beginning at 7 p.m. at the Village Bandstand.
Proceeds from Hot Dog Day will benefit the following charities: Alfred Station Fire Co. Association, A.E. Crandall Hook and Ladder, Alfred Montessori School, Allegany County Mental Health Association, Alfred Box of Books Library, ARC Allegany-Steuben, and the Allegany-Cattaraugus-Chautauqua Fund for Women.
