ALLEGANY, N.Y. — More than 250 students and educators from 15 area high schools participated in the 2025 Communications Day, hosted by the Jandoli School of Communication at St. Bonaventure University on Friday, April 4.
The
event included a series of workshops covering a range of communication fields,
including advertising, social media, local news, sports broadcasting, and
photojournalism. Students from the Media Communications Technology and Audio
Visual Productions programs at the Olean Career and Technical Education Center
also attended.
The day
began with a keynote address from Chris LaPlaca, a 1979 graduate of St.
Bonaventure and Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications at ESPN.
As part of the event, students participated in competitive categories for scholarship consideration. Winners of the competition, who are eligible for scholarships should they choose to enroll in an undergraduate program at the Jandoli School of Communication, include:
- Best in Show – CA BOCES
CTE Center at Olean for their project “The Evolution of
Technology”
- Media
Communications Technology – Photography entry
- Audio Visual Productions – Video entry
“It’s
incredibly rewarding to see our students being recognized for their creativity
and technical skills at such a high level,” said Amber Christensen, Media and
Communications instructor at CA BOCES Olean CTE. “Opportunities like this help
validate all the hard work they’ve put into their projects throughout the
year.”
