Wellsville Police issues statement on open container law

This week, in an effort to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Governor Cuomo made the decision to ban customers from eating and congregating inside restaurants and bars. However, the Governor is allowing restaurants and bars to sell food and alcohol for take-out. While the Wellsville Police Department is encouraging the support of local businesses, we would like to remind people that there is an open container law in the Village. Consuming alcohol on the street, sidewalk, etc. will not be tolerated. The spirit of the Governor’s ban is to halt the gathering of people, whether it is inside or outside, while attempting to accommodate local businesses. Please be a responsible partner in trying to curb the spread of this virus.
