Press Release March 19, 2020 For Release: Immediately
Confirmation: Curtis W. Crandall, Chairman
We understand that there is a strong desire for information related to the emerging Coronavirus 19 pandemic as it relates to Allegany County. We have made every effort to provide information to the public through press releases and have reconfigured our website to provide information as soon as it is received here. This epidemic has taken the world by surprise and was not anticipated; however, Allegany County has responded quickly and effectively to this situation.
Please understand that our information is provided primarily by New York State and the Federal Government. Local information is somewhat limited and often falls under federally mandated confidentiality guidelines.
This is what we know:
• We have two confirmed cases of the Coronavirus 19 with neither requiring hospitalization.
• As of today, a total of 47 screenings have been conducted.
• To maintain the confidentiality of those who are or may be affected by the Coronavirus 19, there will not be public disclosures of the individual’s location by either town or village.
• We are currently awaiting the results of those screenings and will announce the results once received.
• Based on experiences in other locations, we should expect the number of confirmed cases to increase.
• The Allegany County Department of Health continues to evaluate the situation and has established a hotline (585-268-9700) that will be staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on a daily basis. Please be patient when calling in as we anticipate there will be peak demand hours for this service.
Allegany County has established a partial stand up of Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to address the ever changing issues related to this pandemic. Please be assured that Allegany County is prepared and responding to the Coronavirus 19 pandemic.
Please refer to our website for updated information. This site will include, to the extent possible, a listing of business closures. In the meantime, please exercise caution, maintain social distancing, stay home if possible, and follow recommendations released by the State of New York, CDC, and our local Department of Health.
