A group of advocates in support of the 3For5 Campaign visited with Senator George Borrello and Assemblyman Joseph Giglio on Thursday, March 5, 2020 in Olean, NY.
The 3For5 Campaign represents a three percent increase in
annual program funding each year for the next five years. This multi-year
commitment from the state is crucial for the continuation of cost-effective
care, as well as investments in the workforce and much needed technology and
facility modernization. Statewide agencies that represent Mental Health,
Developmental Disabilities, Addiction Disorders, Child Welfare, Foster Care,
Domestic Violence, Homeless Programs, Aging Programs and others have banded
together to speak with one voice in support of this campaign.
Local advocates discussed the importance of the Direct
Support Professional role and the current staffing crisis (H.R. 6045) with the
Senator and Assemblyman, as well as their concerns regarding the two percent
rate cut across the board for all providers coming in July 2020. The group
concluded their visit by urging the Senator, Assemblyman and the legislature in
general, to advocate for inclusion of 3For5 in this year’s budget. For more
