Catholic Charities is committed to keeping its clients,
volunteers and employees safe at all times. To that end, Catholic Charities
reminds clients that if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or other
illnesses, they need to stay home and seek treatment via the recommendations of
local health authorities.
“During these especially challenging times, we also want to
be clear that Catholic Charities is committed to continuing to serve those most
in need in Western New York, particularly those seeking mental health services
and basic emergency assistance through our food pantries for example,” said
Deacon Steve Schumer, Catholic Charities president and chief executive officer.
“These services, and most other services, are available and we are ready to
help.”
As of Monday, March 16, these are the most significant
adjustments to our programs and services:
•Catholic Charities’ WIC in Erie, Niagara and Chautauqua
counties are asking clients to NOT come into their local WIC office. WIC staff
will contact clients by phone regarding their benefits and Nutrition Education
services.
•The Our Kids Parent Education and Awareness program group
meeting scheduled for Hamburg tonight (March 16) has been canceled.
•Effective tomorrow (Tuesday, March 17), Catholic Charities
Workforce and Education Services' will suspend on-site service and classes at
all of its sites (including Catholic Charities' ECC Pathways sites) until
further notice. Classes will be available online via email or through distance
learning (DL). Hard-copy packets for accessing the DL system have been mailed
to current students. Students who did not receive the DL packets but need one
will be able to access the information by visiting ccwny.org/TASC. Anyone
wishing to enroll in online or DL programming will be able to do so via
ccwny.org/TASC.
•A Gathering Place, our senior adult day program, is closed
this week (March 15-March 21). The decision to open or keep the program closed
will be made on a weekly basis.
•Our Wellsville Outreach Thrift Store (67 E. Pearl St.,
Wellsville) and Lots of Clothes Thrift Store (1122 Broadway, Buffalo) are both
closed this week (March 15-21).
•All Nutrition~Simply Said trainings have been canceled
through the end of the month.
Updates will be shared as they are available. Catholic
Charities appreciates the understanding and cooperation of our community as we
all navigate this together.
