Belfast man receives jail time for violent felony, stabbing incident

A Belfast man will spend some time in the Allegany County jail after he pled guilty recently to a violent felony crime. Judge Thomas Brown sentenced Nolan Cox, age 24, to six months in jail followed by a probation term of five years. According to the District Attorney's Office, on September 2, 2019, Cox stabbed someone in the back while attempting to steal items from his home in Belfast. Cox admitted to the crime of second-degree assault. He had originally been charged with attempted robbery, burglary, assault and tampering with physical evidence. Cox was represented by Assistant Public Defender Patricia Fogerty. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Amanda Finn.
