UPDATE: Scio family "very lucky to escape" mobile home fire
A Scio family of four barely escaped when flames ripped through their mobile home this morning. Flames consumed the dwelling at 4:50 a.m. at 3818 State Route 19. The shell of the structure remains, but fire chief Jim Ames said "the inside was gutted." Ames said his firefighters "made a good save...by making an aggressive interior attack." Two adults and two teenage children escaped using a side door. The fire chief said "they were very lucky to escape without injury." They were helped to safety by volunteer firefighters, the chief said. When fire units arrived, they were confronted with "heavy fire conditions." The American Red Cross responded to help the family. Ames said fire investigators determined the cause to be "electrical in nature." The blaze was brought under control in about 30 minutes, but firefighters remained on scene for another 90 minutes for "mop-up operations." Scio fire units returned to service at 7:06 a.m.
