Allegany County: Outdoor events could be held hostage by Mother Nature

It might be a duel between Mother Nature and two major events happening in Allegany County. On Friday, the Allegany County Fair in Angelica has a big time concert planned. At 5:30 p.m. local band Trigger Happy performs and then at 7 p.m., it's country music artist Keith Anderson in concert. At about the same time, it's the 44th annual Great Wellsville Balloon Rally. Both events will have big crowds. Both events are weather dependent. On Friday and Saturday, the National Weather Service says Allegany County will have to deals with oppressive heat and the risk of dangerous storms. "The risk of strong to severe weather is the biggest threat," said Bob Hamilton, lead meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Buffalo. It will have the greatest impact on balloons. He told WRN, "you can manage the heat, you can't manage a thunderstorm. The heat is gonna be a nuisance - the heat you can prepare for, the bad weather you can't." The forecaster wasn't spreading fear...he just wants people to remain safe and alert.

In addition to the two listed events, Wellsville will also hold its Main Street Festival Saturday. The oppressive heat is a guarantee, fingers crossed any other evil weather keeps its distance. Allegany County needs this weekend.
Pet safety during extreme heat:

Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke

Unlike people, dogs don't sweat out excess body heat. While your dog does have a few sweat glands located in his paws, these do little to help regulate his body temperature. Instead, he does this through rapid, open-mouthed breathing, called panting. But sometimes panting isn't enough to keep him from getting overheated.
Heat exhaustion in dogs can occur when the body temperature becomes elevated above the normal temperature. This varies slightly, according to PetMD.com, but it's generally agreed that temperatures of 103 degrees Fahrenheit and higher are above normal. If the temperature continues to rise and reaches 106 or higher, your pup is in the danger zone for heat stroke, during which the organs begin to shut down and his heart could stop altogether.
