Coudersport, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that work to replace a bridge on a Route 4025 (Brizzie Hollow) in Oswayo Township, Potter County is scheduled to begin Monday, June 17. Replacing it will allow PennDOT to remove the bridge from Potter County’s list of bridges in poor condition.
The existing prestressed box beam bridge spans Hemlock Hollow Run near Oswayo Borough. It will be replaced with a concrete channel beam bridge. A detour making use of Route 244 to Route 44 to Route 4023 (Eleven Mile Road) will be implemented during the replacement. Drivers familiar with the area may consider taking alternate routes.
This project is a joint effort between Pro-Cut Concrete of Mechanicsburg and PennDOT Potter County Maintenance. Pro-Cut will saw the abutments and PennDOT will complete demolition of the existing structure, prep for the new structure, placement of the new channel beams, pouring the concrete for the new deck surface, mulching, seeding, approach paving, and guiderail installation. The beams for the new structure were fabricated by PennDOT Bradford County Maintenance.
PennDOT anticipates opening the bridge to traffic by August. Should work progress allow, PennDOT will reopen the bridge earlier. All work is weather and scheduled dependent.
The existing 26-foot bridge was originally constructed in 1960 and carries an average of 52 vehicles a day.
