SENATOR CATHARINE YOUNG SEEKS RE-ELECTION TO THE
NEW YORK STATE SENATE
Highlights record of accomplishments for the Southern Tier and Livingston County

Emphasizing her commitment to serving her constituents and advocating for rural communities, Senator Catharine M. Young officially announced she is seeking re-election to the New York State Senate in the 57th District, which encompasses Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany and half of Livingston counties.

“It is a wonderful privilege to serve the people of the Southern Tier. They are my friends and neighbors. There is nothing more important to me than ensuring the future of the region we love, which is our home,” said Senator Young.

“In reflecting on where we started, it is clear we have made strides in strengthening our area’s economic opportunities and quality of life. However, more work is needed. Job creation and economic growth, tax relief, educational opportunities and access to health care continue to be my top priorities for the district,” she said.

“We have delivered millions of dollars to invest in our local economy - crucial support that has helped fund vital infrastructure improvements, capital projects and water system upgrades, the pillars for economic growth.  We have supported exciting revitalization efforts in our downtowns and waterfront areas to enhance tourism and catalyze new investment.”

“We championed the $4.2 billion middle-class tax cut that will ultimately reduce rates by 20 percent, bringing them to their lowest level in 70 years. We created the property tax cap that has put the brakes on runaway tax hikes and are continuing to fight to make it permanent. We invested record amounts to protect the STAR and Enhanced STAR programs, and insisted on preserving the property tax rebate program to ease the burden on middle-income families and seniors.”

“In today’s global economy, providing our children with world class learning opportunities is essential, and that is why we secured record school aid,” she said. “We have also spearheaded investments in workforce training to provide our current and future workers with the 21st century skills that are in demand by the advanced manufacturing sector.”

Senator Young said she has been at the forefront of combating the heroin and opioid epidemic, a crisis that is devastating families and communities, and destroying lives.  “We secured the commitment of a record $250 million this year to expand prevention, treatment and recovery. We have provided law enforcement with the tools to combat the heroin plague at its source,” she said.

Senator Young noted she has worked tirelessly to preserve and strengthen access to quality healthcare, helping to steer millions to hospitals and health care facilities across the region. “Our residents need and deserve to have lifesaving technology and facilities close to their communities.  The progress we are making will have a profound impact,” she said.

“My passion for serving the people in my district is just as strong now as it was 13 years ago when I first took my State Senate oath of office. I am incredibly grateful for the trust voters have placed in me and am eager to continue my work to build a brighter future for our residents and all New Yorkers.”
