Obituary: Robert D. “Bob” Grant, 92, of Coudersport


COUDERSPORT, PA- Robert D. “Bob” Grant, 92, of Coudersport, formerly of Denver, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born on February 19, 1926 in Ephrata, he was a son of Earl Eugene Sr. and Helen Dundore Grant.  On September 15, 1951 in the Reformed Church in Denver, he married Pauline Sweigart, who passed away on August 25, 2012.
At the age 8 or 9, Bob worked in his father’s ice plant, earning 75 cents a week and later he worked on his grandfather’s farm in Goglersville during the summer. 
He attended Reamstown School and later earned his GED.  Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, serving on the USS New Orleans, a heavy cruiser, sailing in the South Pacific, from February 9, 1944 to April 18, 1946.  After the War, upon returning home in 1946, he earned his pilot’s license.  After his service to his country, Bob was again employed by his father in the excavating business.  Later he established the Bob Grant Well Drilling and Water Systems in Denver, Pa., retiring in early 1990’s.  After retiring from his business, Bob was not one to sit.  He worked with a building construction company, worked at Chemlawn and also was employed by a cable provider subcontractor installing cable T.V.  He also worked as a driver for Ezra Bieler in Lancaster County.
Bob was a life member of the VFW.  In 1960, Bob became a mason at Ephrata Lodge #665 F. & A.M. and later in 1960 joined the Lodge of Perfection in Lancaster.  In 1961 he joined the Raja Shrine in Reading where he was a Shriner’s clown.  In 1961 Bob began serving on the Denver Borough Council where he served for two 4-year terms. 
Surviving are his daughter, Pat Northeimer of Coudersport; a grandson, John Wesley Northeimer of Coudersport; a great-granddaughter, Makenzie B. Northeimer of Coudersport; a brother, James (Thelma) Grant; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth Grant and Earl Grant Jr., along with his wife, Veona.
A memorial service honoring Bob’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Christ Episcopal Church, 601 North Main Street, Coudersport, with Mother Janis Yskamp, rector, officiating. 
Members of Eulalia Lodge #342 F. & A.M. will conduct a Masonic memorial service.   Military honors will be accorded by the Potter County Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Sinking Spring.
A time of fellowship and a luncheon will follow the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society; to a Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505; or to the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
Bob’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
