BATH – Steuben County legislators are expected to approve a
new partnership for substance abuse treatment when they meet in regular session
at 10 a.m. Monday in the County Office Building. A proposed medically managed
detoxification program will be located at Arnot Health Ira Davenport Memorial
Hospital with the county Community Services’ Steuben County Alcohol &
Substance Abuse Services (SCASAS) providing onsite substance abuse evaluations
of individuals receiving treatment through the hospital’s detoxification
program. If approved, the program is the latest effort in Steuben to help
victims of substance abuse, now at epidemic proportions, and directly or
indirectly touching every resident in the county. Another effort – the county’s
second Substance Abuse Forum – is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Hornell
High School Auditorium. In other action, the county Legislature will consider:
*A municipal cooperation agreement (shared services) with
the villages of Arkport and Cohocton for the use of Steuben’s tax collection
system. The villages will each pay $500 annually for software maintenance,
which is expected to streamline their record keeping.
* Accepting the New York State Department of
Transportation’s Extreme Winter Recovery funding which will be used to rebuild
4.5 miles of road on County Road 60, in the Town of West Union. The road is
currently listed as poor by the county Public Works Department.
* Accepting a $100,000 grant from the Dormitory Authority of
the State of New York for the purchase of a rubber tracked excavator. The
excavator will be shared by the county Public Works and the county Soil and
Water Conservation District; the grant is through state Assemblyman Philip
Palmesano.
