ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.— Five students, along with the newest
member of the Department of Mathematics faculty at St. Bonaventure University,
were inducted into the New York Omega Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national
mathematics honor society, in a ceremony on campus Wednesday, May 3.
Students inducted include:
• James Brown, a junior chemistry major from Coudersport,
Pa.
• John Butler, a senior mathematics major from Shavertown,
Pa
• Cianna Duringer, a senior finance and mathematics major
from Eden, N.Y.
• Christopher O’Sullivan, a junior mathematics major from
West Sayville, N.Y.
• Chyann Piendl, a junior mathematics major from Cecil, Pa.
Also inducted was Dr. Christine Uhl, assistant professor of
mathematics at St. Bonaventure. A native of Dallas, Texas, Uhl earned her B.A.
in mathematics at the University of Dallas and her master’s and Ph.D. in
mathematics from the University of North Texas. She joined the mathematics
faculty at St. Bonaventure in August of 2016.
Pi Mu Epsilon is dedicated to the promotion of mathematics
and recognition of mathematical achievement among students and faculty at
academic institutions. Induction into PME is based on mathematical achievement
and overall scholarship.
Founded in 1914 at Syracuse University, Pi Mu Epsilon now
has more than 300 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United
States. This year marks the 39th anniversary of the New York Omega Chapter.
