Fire Departments across Allegany County are mourning the loss today of a former district coordinator. Word broke Sunday that Clair "Speed" Guinnip of Scio had passed away. Guinnip served as 'DC-3' from January 1978 until December 2003. He also served proudly with the Scio Fire Department for years.
Today, Allegany County Fire Coordinator Jeff Luckey remembered Guinnip fondly. He called Clair a fire service "icon," remembering his smile, wit and professionalism. Luckey said Guinnip was a "wealth of knowledge."
Luckey said in addition to Guinnip, others who have held the post include Joe Anderson, PJ Sherman, Tom Slavin and now Brian Smith. Funeral arrangements will be posted when available.
