Almond: Tractor Trailer slams into Trooper car on I-86

It was a chilling radio transmission from a New York State Trooper...he told Allegany County 911 "be advised I was just struck from behind...I'm...I'm okay." That Trooper vehicle was parked along the eastbound lanes of I-86 near Almond at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, assisting a disabled vehicle, when he was struck from behind by a passing trucker. The Trooper was able to exit the vehicle. He was shaken and evaluated at the scene by EMS. The trooper vehicle, according to radio reports, sustained extensive damage. No additional information is currently available.
UPDATE:
PRESS RELEASE
On July 6, 2020 at 7:25 p.m. a SP Amity Trooper responded to a disabled camper on I-86 east bound in the town of Almond.  The Troop car had emergency lights activated and was on the shoulder of the roadway providing traffic control for the disabled camper. The 2019 Western Star tractor trailer car hauler traveling east bound failed to observe the Troop car and struck the rear side of the car with the rear passenger side of the trailer.  The tractor trailer came to rest in the median of I-86.  The Trooper was in the vehicle when the collision occurred and was transported to Jones Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The operator of the tractor trailer was issued multiple traffic tickets including failure to move over for emergency vehicles.  NYSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit assisted and put the tractor trailer out of service.
