Obituary: Paula Ann Ayers, 76, of Bolivar, formerly of Shinglehouse, PA

BOLIVAR, NY---Paula Ann Ayers, 76, of Bolivar, formerly of Shinglehouse, PA, went to be with the  Lord on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at The Pines in Olean, NY, after a long illness.

Born on Tuesday, August 3, 1948 in Coudersport, PA, she was a daughter of Paul F. and Vera P. Glaser Boyd.  On June 17, 1967 in the United Brethren Church in Sweden Valley, PA, she married William B. “Bill” Ayers, who survives.

Paula was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1966, and the Olean Business Institute. She later graduated from Liberty College with two degrees in Biblical Studies.

She began her career as a secretary at the University of Pittsburgh, main campus, in the Theater Arts Department.  Upon moving back to the area, she was employed as a secretary to the principal at Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse and later worked as the secretary to the Superintendent. After a short break to be home with her children, she took a job as a clerk at Olean Teachers Credit Union and then worked with her husband at Broad Elm Truck Center in Olean.  Paula returned to her chosen profession and began working in ministry when she took a position at Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee.  Her most recent and treasured position was Ministry Coordinator for Heritage AFlame Ministries where her dedication impacted people worldwide.

Paula was a member of Southside Union Chapel in Olean.  She had traveled extensively on mission trips to India, Ghana, Scotland, Alaska, and New York City.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband; three children, Holly A. (Tom) Marino of Olean, Robyn L. (Brad) Sloat of Burns, TN, and Kristina M. (Michael) Paul of Newtown Square, PA; five grandchildren, Matthew Marino, Jordan Sloat, Alexis Johnson, Lauren Miller, and Grayson Paul; two great-grandsons, Avin Marino and Finn Marino; a sister, Chyrl Cahilly of Coudersport, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Paula was predeceased by her parents.

Family and friends may call from 10am to 11am on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Southside Union Chapel, 647 South Union Street, Olean, NY where a Celebration of Paula’s life will follow at 11am with Pastor David Herne of Heritage AFlame Ministries, Bolivar, officiating.  Burial will be in Ayers Hill Cemetery, Coudersport.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paula’s name may be made to Heritage AFlame Ministries, 198 Salt Rising Road, Bolivar, NY 14715

Paula entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
