Sunday: Wellsville Emergency Management issues updated report on COVID-19

PRESS RELEASE:

Update on the status of Wellsville pertaining to the Covid-19 crisis from the Wellsville Emergency Management Team. As of today, there are still only two confirmed cases in Allegany County with approximately 45 being tested in the area from being in contact with those affected. Complete results have not been returned for all that were tested. We continue to ask that you follow recommendations set forth by the CDC of washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, maintain social distancing of 6 feet, clean areas with approved cleansers and avoid direct contact with the sick and elderly. We also ask that you do check on your elderly neighbors on a regular basis to make sure their needs are being met, remember that some have not had much contact with anyone since this crisis began and they could very likely be scared and confused as to the situation. Comfort them with words and ensure them that you are there for their needs. If you haven’t already done so, exchange phone numbers so they have a contact person in the event they may need something. Neighbors helping neighbors is the best thing for this community right now. If you have a neighbor that does happen to be currently quarantined, offer them the same assistance, although it is vital that you maintain distance in this situation.

This has been a difficult time for all, most have never experienced anything of this magnitude. Please watch friends and family members for signs of stress and depression. Signs of stress can be irritability, changes in eating habits, excessive alcohol abuse, difficulty concentrating or sleeping. Signs of depression can be hopeless feeling, loss of interest in enjoyed activities, noticeable weight gain or loss, thoughts of suicide. Seek help if you notice these symptoms in others or if you have them yourself. Also be aware to the signs and symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as this ongoing crisis continues. Follow the provided links for more information on these.

With the stay at home order issued by the Governor we ask that you heed his wishes as this is one of the ways that we can combat this virus. The local grocery stores are assisting as best they can by providing hours that are focused at only the elderly. Please remain out of the stores in those designated hours unless you are in that category. Giant is offering curbside pick-up for orders that are called in to the store. Within the next 24-36 hours a number will be given to the stores for those individuals that request a delivery of their groceries to Town of Wellsville residents, those requesting this service will notify the store when you call in that they want them delivered. This service will not be denied to anyone, but we ask that this be used by only those that truly need it to include the sick, elderly, and quarantined or isolated. We are also working with State and Federal regulations to include medication delivery in the near future. Phone numbers for grocery stores participating in the delivery process are:

Giant – 593-3354 (offers curb side pick-up, call store for details)

Save A Lot – 593-7017

Tops – we are awaiting clearance from Tops to start allowing delivery service from them.
