Wellsville: Village Board orders another building to be torn down

The Wellsville Village Board has ordered another building to be demolished. The move followed a public hearing regarding a garage at 205 Maple Avenue, next to the former Knights of Columbus building. James Dorsette, the building owner and a former candidate for mayor, opted not to attend the hearing. Code Enforcement Officer Jo Fenske described the two-story building as free-standing and severely deteriorated. She noted the second story had partially collapsed and was wide open. Numerous complaints were filed with her office, she said. Although the building owner failed to attend, he did communicate a remediation plan with the Codes Office. The village determined it was too little, too late. Dorsette has thirty days to comply with the order once he is served.

The Village Board Monday night moved to suspend an unsafe building designation for a fire ravaged home at 47-49 Martin Street. A representative for the owner said a contractor has been acquired to renovate the home with work to begin immediately. A building permit has been applied for and plans have been developed. The Board appeared content with the forward progress from the owner and the open communication.
