ALMOND - James M. Wilcox, 82, of Karr Valley Road, passed
away unexpectedly Friday (December 6, 2019) at his home.
Born in Hornell, NY April 23, 1937, the son of Glenn and
Florence Woodruff Wilcox, he had resided all his life in Almond. He was a
graduate of the Alfred-Almond Central School in 1956 and had been involved in
the operation of his family’s dairy farm in Almond nearly all his life.
Jim was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Almond Grange, The
Bud’s –N-Blossoms Square Dance Club, the Almond Fire Department, and attended
the Almond Community Church. He also served on the Allegany County Soil and
Water Board, as well as the Alfred-Almond Alumni Association.
Jim will be remembered for his dedication to the Allegany
County Fair, where he worked for many years. He especially enjoyed watching
ships on the St. Lawrence River, and spent hours listening to games and news on
Hornell’s local radio WLEA, He also enjoyed square dancing, and could be found
almost daily at the Country Kitchen in Hornell.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister; Genevieve
Wilcox and his brother Frederick Wilcox.
He is survived by his daughter; Kelly (Nate) Frost of
Redwood, NY, his son; Rod Wilcox of Almond. His brother; Carroll (Florence)
Wilcox of Pittsford, NY and one grandson; Nathan Frost.

The family will be present to receive friends at the
Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell on
Friday (Dec. 13, 2019) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on
Saturday (Dec. 14, 2019) at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Charles
Emerson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond. The
Almond Grange will conduct a memorial service on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the
funeral home.
