Deborah McDonnell to serve as new County Administrator

Allegany County is pleased to announce the appointment of Deborah (Debbie) McDonnell as their next County Administrator effective June 11, 2019. Debbie has an extensive public service background having served as a City Manager in New York and Ohio. Debbie has strong economic and community redevelopment experience.  
As the County Administrator, Debbie McDonnell will be responsible for the daily operations of the various County Departments and liaison with County Elected Officials. The Administrator is also responsible to provide programmatic oversight of the budgetary process and will direct a general workforce of nearly 500 County employees.


In Debbie’s 20 year tenure in local governments, she held prominent positions as the City Manager for the Village of Ossining, City Administrator of Poughkeepsie, NY, City Manager for Fairborn, Ohio, and Development Director for the Village of Saranac Lake, NY. Debbie holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and is studying for her doctorate in Public Administration with a focus on building sustainable communities. She has extensive experience in economic development, downtown redevelopment, and waterfront planning. She is keenly focused on customer service, public outreach, and inclusion, which leads to a strong community. She has served on various boards including the local chamber of commerce, military affairs, rotary, and served twice for Congressman Austria (Ohio) on a regional economic project. Debbie once served as an elected official in Saranac Lake which gives her a balanced perspective on government services.
