Allegany County Deputies take additional training

(L-R) Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting, Sgt. Mahoney, Sue Shedlock, Saratoga County Sheriff Mike Zurlo, and Broome County Sheriff David Harder.
Saratoga Springs, NY – Sixty-one deputy sheriffs and civilian staff from 42 sheriff’s offices around the state attended the New York State Sheriffs' Association’s and Sheriffs’ Institute’s Civil Supervisors Training Conference in May at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, NY, including Sgt. Shawn Mahoney and Civil Clerk Sue Shedlock from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. The three-day training program is part of a training series offered each year jointly by the NYS Sheriffs' Association (NYSSA) and the NYS Sheriffs’ Institute.
All sheriffs have civil law enforcement functions, including the service of process and enforcement of judgments and other court orders and mandates. The conference provides participants with training in the latest advances in civil law enforcement and a forum to discuss current civil law enforcement issues and share best practices.
NYSSA is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1934 to assist New York’s Sheriffs in the effective delivery of services to the public. It comprises all 58 Sheriffs in New York State. The Sheriffs’ Institute was established in 1979 to advance criminal justice education, prevent juvenile delinquency, and support victims of crime and their families.
