Obituary: Martha “Marty” K. Tezak, 75, Wellsville


WELLSVILLE -  Martha “Marty” K. Tezak, 75, of 450 N. Main St, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Thursday, 18 October 2018 at her home.  She was born in Baltimore, MD, on 11 August 1943 to Martha and James Leyko.  She is a graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame HS in 1961 and from Villa Julie Junior College in Baltimore in 1964.  She was employed by the Miles & Stockbridge law firm in Baltimore, MD, Chandler & Company investments in Beverly Hills, CA, and served as the Executive Secretary of the Constitution Island Assn at West Point. In addition to her years at Marine Midland Bank and USP&IRA (the military investment company (now known as First Command) in Highland Falls, NY she was Assistant Editor for the Association of Graduates’ (West Point) alumni magazine, Assembly.  She was secretary for the Mohawk Valley Business Women’s Network in Utica, NY. 
Her main athletics were annual bowling leagues where her high game and series were 233 and 616, and golfing which included Pinehurst, Pebble Beach and St Andrews in Scotland as well as the annual Member-Guest Tournaments with her daughter Chris sponsored by the Ladies Golf Association of the Wellsville Country Club. She enjoyed skiing at Killington, Lake Placid, Copper Mountain and Breckenridge.  She was also an avid reader and social bridge player.
Marty was Publicity Chairperson for the Monday Club, a women’s interest group, and Treasurer for Hemlock Twig of Jones Memorial Hospital. She was a member of a quilting group affectionately known as the Old Crows, was involved with the Immaculate Conception Church Alter Guild and as the Social Chairperson for the Wellsville Country Club.  At West Point she was a member of the Officers’ Wives Club, worked the Blood Bank and received the Red Cross Volunteer Award.
She traveled all over the United States accompanying her husband to various educational conferences.
She created, owned and operated her own company, MLT Monogramming & Gifts at West Point, Utica and Wellsville NY.  That was her pride and joy for 28 years.  She is survived by her husband Ed, of 52 years, her daughter Christine (Chuck Quinley) and her son Scott (Anne). She was the devoted grandmother of Michael.
Visitation will take place at the J.W. Embser & Sons Funeral Home between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018.  Marty was a devout practicing catholic who took her religion seriously.  Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 in Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.
