Obituary: Esther Deane Wright, 96, Cuba

Esther Deane Wright Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother

Esther Deane Wright, 96, of 18 South Park Street, Cuba, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Olean General Hospital after a brief illness. 
Born on May 28, 1922, in Batavia, she was a daughter of Arthur B. and Daisy Nicols Hiscutt.  On July 25, 1943, in Batavia, she married Donn William “Bill” Wright who preceded her in death on August 11, 2011. Esther was a graduate of Batavia High School.  She had worked as a telephone operator for New York Telephone in Batavia prior to her marriage.  From 1964-66 she was a teacher’s aide at the Cuba Central Elementary School.  In 1966 she went to work for East Hampton Middle School where she was also a teacher’s aide retiring in 1972.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school Teacher and Superintendent for many years.  She was also a member of the American Baptist Women, the Home Bureau and former member of McKee Chapter 212 Order of the Eastern Star.  She and her husband were Charter members of the Ally-Catt Campers Club.
Esther enjoyed sewing clothes for her children when they were young, knitting, camping, square dancing, crocheting, and spending winters in Arizona for 25 years with her husband. 
She is survived by her children Todd (Shelia) Wright of Randolph, Vermont, Linda (Frank) Belou of Clearwater, Florida, Crystal Wright of Cuba, Paige (Greg) Price of Princeton, West Virginia, Marchéta (Ulrike) Gutberlet-Wright of Greenacres, Florida; a daughter in law, Martha Wright of Durham, CT; 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; 1 Niece Paula (James) Robinson of Cuba; several great nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a son Wayne Wright on April 10, 2018, a grandson Steven James Solomon, a brother Donald Hiscutt, a sister Doris Hartley, and a niece Carol Shaw.  The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Cuba, 17 South Street, Cuba, on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at which time a Memorial Service will be held.  The Rev. Lynn Sullivan, will officiate. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.
