On October 8, 2018, Olean-based state police arrested Linda
J. Bemis, 75, of Taunton, MA for Possession or Transport or Offer for Sale
Unstamped Cigarettes. During a traffic stop on Interstate 86 East in the town
of Hinsdale, Troopers say they discovered 32 cartons of untaxed cigarettes in
Bemis’s vehicle that had recently been purchased on the Allegany Seneca
Reservation. Troopers confiscated the cigarettes. Bemis was arrested and
arraigned in Hinsdale Town Court, and was released on her own recognizance. She
is scheduled to reappear in Hinsdale Town Court later this month.
