BATH – Legislative review and discussion of the fiscal impact of COVID-19 and planning for re-opening Steuben County offices will be the subject of a special county Legislature Reopening and Recovery Committee set for 9 a.m. Thursday, May 7.
"We are meeting to discuss a phased approach to reopening the County operations because we want to be prepared once the Governor relaxes the stay at home orders," said county Legislature Chairman Scott VanEtten, R-Caton. "Regarding the fiscal impact, we need to take actions to reduce our County spending for the balance of 2020 to address the reductions in revenues we know will occur."
In keeping with social distancing regulations while maintaining smooth operations in the county, all committees now meet via teleconference open to the media and the public.
Other committees scheduled to meet in early May include the county Legislature’s Public Works and Public Safety and Corrections committees set for 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. respectively Monday, (May 4).
The county Legislature’s Human Services, Health and Education and Agriculture, Industry and Planning committees will meet at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. respectively Wednesday (May 6); with the special Steuben County Land Bank Corporation also set to meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (May 6).
County legislators will identify themselves when they speak on any issue, for the convenience of the media and public.
