CUBA – The 16 members of the 2020 Leadership Allegany
graduating class helped the organization celebrate its tenth anniversary Friday
night with the help of local officials and founders.
Leadership Allegany is a leadership training program that
engages adult professionals who live, work or have a vested interest in
Allegany County. Through workshops and projects and meetings with local
leaders, participants gain a better understanding of their own leadership
strengths and learn to lead effectively. The program is based on the Social
Change Model for Leadership Development.
On hand for the 10th anniversary celebration was one of the
founders – Pamela Say, Co-chairs, Phyllis Garete and Jonathan Hilsher, founding
member Gretchen Hanchett and Houghton College President Shirley Mullen,
Allegany County Chairman Curt Crandall, Senator state Senator George Borrello
and state Assemblyman Joseph Giglio, Lee James representing Congressman Tom
Reed and Greg Salmonson, vice president of Student Affairs at Alfred State College.
From its founding in 2010 the program has been supported by
Houghton College, The Greater Allegany County Chamber of Commerce and the
Allegany County Legislature. Alfred State College also supported the project
and joined the ranks in 2017.Leadership Allegany.
Including the 2020 graduating class, 135 people have gone
through the program.
The student speaker for the event was Rebecca Rowley,
Pastoral Clinical Social Worker at Fillmore Wesleyan Church Christian
Ministries of WNY.
She said, “These are the kind of people I would vote for, I
would work for, and recruit to be on my team.” She went on to say of the class,
“We are the servants of this county because we love this county.”
