Fire scorches Centerville highway garage

A Saturday evening fire scorched the Centerville highway garage. A fire chief passing by the building at 8:10 p.m. saw the smoke and flames and called the alarm in to the 911 Center. Radio reports indicated there was heavy smoke and flames coming through the doors. Firefighters from northern Allegany County, Wyoming County and Cattaraugus County were called to the scene. Early in to the blaze, there was an urgent request for interior firefighters to battle conditions inside the structure. No serious injuries were reported. Several Allegany County fire investigators were at the scene to determine a cause and origin. Some units didn't return to service until 3:16 a.m. Sunday. Damage was reported as significant.
