Steuben County Sheriff's Blotter

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports following a joint investigation, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and officers of the Village of Canisteo Police Department arrested Carrieann M. Gilliam, age 37, of Emmet Street in the City of Hornell, New York. It is alleged that from December 2017 through July 2018, Ms. Gilliam stole money from another person in the Village of Canisteo in the amount of $30,523.55. It is also alleged that Ms. Gilliam then failed to report that income as was required when she completed a recertification for benefits from the Steuben County Department of Social Services and as a result received benefits that she was not eligible to receive in the amount of $759.00. Ms. Gilliam was charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the third degree, a class D felony by the Canisteo Police Department, and two count of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the first degree, class E Felonies, and one count of Petit Larceny, a class A misdemeanor, by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office
Ms. Gilliam was arrested at the Village of Canisteo Police Department by Village of Canisteo Police Officers and Steuben County Deputies. She was arraigned in the Village of Canisteo Court. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and Village of Canisteo Police Department were assisted by the City of Hornell Police Department, the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.


Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on October 8, 2018, deputies arrested John D. Bennett, age 54, of State Route 63, Wayland New York. Mr. Bennett was wanted for an alleged violation of the terms or conditions of his probation. It is alleged that Mr. Bennett failed to appear at the Steuben County Jail on February 23rd, 2018 to serve a sentence regarding his violation of probation on an original charge of Felony Driving while intoxicated. Mr. Bennett was observed in a vehicle stopped by deputies in the Village of Wayland, operated by another person. Mr. Bennett was transported directly to the Steuben County Jail to be held until his next court appearance.

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on October 12, 2018, deputies arrested Joshua A. Martinez, age 39, of Hartsville, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Martinez operated a motor vehicle on State Route 36 in the Town of Hornellsville while talking on a cellular device. It is further alleged that Mr. Martinez was intoxicated while operating this vehicle. Mr. Martinez was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and released on traffic summons to appear in Hornellsville Town Court on a later date.
On October 6, 2018 deputies arrested Kody Brown, age 31, of Addison, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Brown operated a vehicle at a speed of 87mph in a 40mph zone on State Route 36 in Canisteo New York. It is further alleged that Mr. Brown was intoxicated while operating this vehicle. Mr. Brown was charged with Driving while intoxicated, Driving with a .08% or more alcohol in blood, and speeding. Mr. Brown was released on traffic summons to appear in Canisteo Town Court on a later date.
