At 8:20 AM On May 2nd, 2025, the Wyoming County Dispatch Center received a radio Message from a Warsaw Police Officer that the officer was in pursuit of a Blue BMW west bound on West Buffalo Street (Route 20A) in the Village of Warsaw. Approximately 2 minutes later the officer radioed the Dispatch Center the vehicle had crashed on Route 20A in the Town of Orangeville. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with the New York State d the BMW had crashed off the south side of the roadway and was on fire. The Warsaw Officer and Sheriff’s Deputies were able to knock the fire down with extinguishers and pull the driver from the vehicle.
The vehicle in the middle of the roadway was struck head-on by the BMW when the BMW lost control around a curve. It was determined that this vehicle, a 2015 Nissan Rogue, was traveling east bound on Rt. 20A at the time of the collision. The driver, James Stablewski, age 48 from East Aurora was critically injured and transported to ECMC by ambulance. A passenger in the vehicle, Daniel Abbott, age 48 from Lancaster was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wyoming County Coroner.
The driver of the BMW, Sanny Dewan, age 19 from the City of Buffalo died from his injuries a short time later at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. The investigation is ongoing by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office regarding the accident and possibility of the BMW being a stolen vehicle. The New York State Attorney General’s Office is involved in the investigation per New York State Executive Law, which requires them to investigate anytime there is a civilian death resulting from a police incident. Additional Agencies that assisted at the scene were: The Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw Fire Department, Varysburg Fire Department, Attica Fire Department, Wyoming County Emergency Services and Wyoming County Ambulance Service .
