Town of Wellsville Emergency Management Press Release

Chris Martelle, Emergency Management Coordinator for the Town of Wellsville, released the following statement Friday night:

For the last two weeks we have been monitoring and discussing the COVID-19 virus that has spread world-wide. We have met with Jones Memorial Hospital staff, talked with Allegany County Office of Emergency management and other health agencies in the state.  After these discussions we feel at this time we are at low risk for exposure. In the event of an exposure problem, we will take the necessary precautions to isolate and quarantine those exposed.  We need everyone to do their part by limiting an exposure problem.
-           Wash your hands frequently for 20 seconds or longer.
-           Social distancing
-           Avoid contact with sick people
-           Avoid touching your face
-           Disinfect frequently touched surfaces with EPA approved cleaners (Lysol)
-           Get the flu shot if you haven’t already
If you become sick after travelling to an infected area or have been in contact with someone who has covid-19 please stay home.  Contact your doctor or Jones Memorial Hospital and inform them of your exposure and illness for guidance.  If you need immediate emergency medical services, call 911 and advise the dispatchers of the possible exposure.

We will update the public as needed. We have plans in place for a possible exposure. We have been in contact with the local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Currently they are not allowing visitors to protect their residents and staff. If you need to go to those facilities please call ahead. If you would like to learn more about covid-19 you can go to www.cdc.gov.
