Steuben County closes County Office Building - Visitor may have had COVID-19

7:25 a.m. UPDATE:
Steuben County is closing the County Office Building AND Community Services and Mental Health Building on Monday March 16th.
Overnight, Steuben County Officials  learned that an individual that had been at the Steuben County Office Building complex in Bath as recently as Friday afternoon has been tested for COVID-19 and is under mandatory isolation.
Continuing to follow guidelines outlined by the Governor and Public Health Department, the Steuben County Office Building Complex in Bath will be closed on Monday, March 16, 2020.
“Although test results on this individual have not yet been determined, out of an abundance of caution to employees and county residents, the Steuben County Office Building complex in Bath will be closed for all business on Monday March 16, 2020,” said Jack Wheeler, County Manager. “The purpose for the closure will be to allow our staff to properly prepare the building for business in the coming days. “
County Courts will be opening today at 10 am for emergencies ONLY at the Surrogates Building in Bath.
ALL court appearances in Bath are cancelled and will be rescheduled.
To repeat: If you have an emergency, go the Surrogates Building in Bath.
Corning and Hornell City Courts will be open as usual.
This closure will only impact the 3 East Pulteney Sq. Main Office Complex and does not include other County Offices or the Corning or Hornell Locations.
This closure will include the Main County Office Building, County Clerk’s Office, County Court House, Annex Building the Balcom House Buildings.
“Social distancing and limiting the amount of contact among the public can be a life-saving measure in our community,” stated County Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “This move will help the County to better prepare to keep our employees and citizens safe.”
County Officials will continue to communicate updates to employees and local media outlets.
