Obituary: James H. “Jim” Buckingham, 79, Coudersport


James H. Buckingham “beloved husband”

COUDERSPORT, Pa.---James H. “Jim” Buckingham, 79, a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away with his loving family by his side on Sunday, February 2, 2020, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after suffering a massive stroke on Saturday.
Born on Wednesday, February 21, 1940 in Knoxville, he was a son of William and Dorothy Johnson Buckingham.  On April 5, 1974 in Coudersport, he married Alva L. Caldwell, who survives.
Jim was a graduate of Elkland High School.  He enlisted in the US Army, having served in Korea.  He then graduated from the Robert Packer Department of Radiology, Class of 1970.  He was employed by Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport as chief x-ray technician from 1970 until his retirement in 2003.  After retiring from the hospital, he continued his career with Champion Orthopedics in Coudersport until recently when he finally retired.

Jim was a member of the Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport and was a faithful member of Potter Post 192 in Coudersport, where he served as treasurer/finance officer.  In 2004 and 2017, Jim was honored to be named Legionnaire of the Year by Post 192.  He loved fishing, bowling, and golfing, but his greatest love was his family.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, William J. “Will” (Elizabeth Boyle Machlan) Buckingham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Brandi L. (Jason Coleman) Buckingham of Wellsville, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Margaret Machlan, Lucy Machlan, Lucas Coleman, and Allison Coleman; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by a brother, William A. Buckingham; and a sister, Dolores Ninomiya.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held this spring at Potter Post 192 in Coudersport on a date and time to be announced.  Full military honors will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Gilmore Cemetery, Wharton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Potter Post 192, 2 Buffalo Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to Park United Methodist Church, 15 East Third Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Jim’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
