Fishing Observations Can Help Shape Future Fisheries Management Actions
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking angler observations as the agency begins its angler diary program on the Genesee River in Allegany and Wyoming counties. The diarist program aims to record data for trout and bass fishing trips on the Genesee River from the Pennsylvania line downstream through Letchworth State Park between March 1 and October 31, 2020.Angler observations received through this program will be used by DEC to help determine future fishery management actions for the Genesee River," said DEC Region 9 Director Abby Snyder. "We encourage new and experienced Genesee anglers to participate in this citizen science data collection and appreciate their contributions."
Information about the data collected during the last DEC angler diary program in 2017 can be found at DEC's website. Anglers who fish the Genesee River (even once) and would like to contribute observations by keeping a fishing diary for DEC can contact DEC's Region 9 Fisheries office at (716) 379-6379 or by email at fwfish9@dec.ny.gov.
