Arbitrator sides with Town of Alma in highway worker case

When the Town of Alma fired a highway worker on January 25, 2019...an independent arbitrator said it was proper. The ruling was made in a 23-page opinion and award notice.  The case involved the Town of Alma versus the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers, local 1580, representing Brian Trask. The arbitrator was Jeffery M. Selchick, Esq.  Trask was hired by the Town on December 7, 2018 as heavy Motor Equipment Operator. He was subject to a 60 day probationary period. On January 8, 2019, he was discharged based on incident reports. The conflict continued for months as Trask allegedly continued to show up for work despite a town ruling.
