Town of Wellsville strikes deal with Educational Foundation, college for construction of new town building

The Town of Wellsville will have a new highway and municipal building. More than a year in the works, the Wellsville Town Board voted Wednesday night to enter into an agreement with the Educational Foundation and the (Alfred) School of Applied Technology. The town currently owns 14 acres of land in Proctor District. Under the deal, the town would turn over the land to the Educational Foundation and the college would agree to construct a new highway and municipal building on West Hanover Street in the village...near the current and crumbling highway building. The town would pay for material and the college students would construct the building, which Town Supervisor Shad Alsworth said would save the town about $200,000. The project will take about two years to complete. The land swap also gives the Foundation and college new room to build even more houses. The 55th house was just placed on the market. Alsworth praised the Foundation and college. He added that the town will work with the village on potentially annexing the Proctor land into the village.
