Steuben County Storm Update

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: DEC. 2, 2019 Dec. 1-2 Winter Storm Update #1 9:30 a.m.

BATH -- A travel advisory remains in place in Steuben County after 6 to 8 inches of snow topped layers of ice and sleet Sunday through early Monday as a winter storm lumbered through the area. Some 5,000 homes and business throughout the county are reporting power outages due to heavy, wet snowfall, county Office of Emergency Services Director Tim Marshall said. "The roads are slushy to snow covered," Marshall said. "So no unnecessary travel is still recommended for today. This is an advisory not a ban. If you must travel, call ahead and make sure your destination is open." Marshall urged customers without power to contact their utility company to learn when power is expected to be restored, or to check the NYSEG website at www.nyesg.com.

With an additional 2 inches of snow still expected throughout the afternoon, Marshall warned residents to use caution while shoveling. "This is a wet heavy wet snow which can stress your body," he said. "Shovel small amounts at a time, take breaks and hydrate well."
